Final Stages
I am currently in the final stages of putting the website together. At the beginning of last week I did all of the web pages for the new appendix that I put it. Its not color-coded like it is in the book, but it is instant access with the click of a button. The last couple of that, I have been doing fine tuning things. I finished the computer animation video for the computer page and have put that on the website. I have gotten all of the web pages to look the same. Now, I have to just put pics on to the appendix pages and some more links then I will be done. I might do a few other things to the page to liven it up if I have a enough time but there is only 37 hours left, so who knows.

Finished Rendering All Camera Angles
I have finished rendering all of the camera angles for the Villa Savoye model and have already moved them into Adobe After Effects to editing process. However, I think I am going to use Adobe Premiere Pro do the video editing process.

On to the next One
Camera 3 finally finished rendering late last night and now i'm onto camera 4. This one should take around 8 hours to complete so that gives me hope that it will be done tonight and I can start camera 5 for over night. I've also decided to make another animated video of my project from my senior year of college and add that to the blog. I will tidy up somethings in the design and then begin the process of animating the scene. Hopefully it will be easier the second time around because I have been working with this software for months now. I plan to start that tomorrow after the rendering is done, which will hopefully be done by tomorrow.

Ultimate Camera 3 Fail!
The estimated time for camera 3 to complete rendering is a little over 24 HOURS!...Yeah, so I just going to try to finish up my paper since my hands are kind of tied at the moment.

Camera 3...Fail!
So, earlier today, I rendered camera 2 and it took about 3 hours to do the entire video. So I was thinking that camera 3 would be around the same time. However, the estimated time for rendering camera 3 is a total of 20 hours. An hour gone by so there is a total of 19 hours left. I definitely wasn't expecting that!
Back to Rendering
Today, I am finishing up the render for the animated Villa Savoye video. I should be done with Camera 2 and 3 today and should finish Walk-through cameras 1 and 2 tomorrow. I will then start the video editing process once that is done. I worked on more of the formatting got the website the other day. I've also added most of the text to the web pages. I have to go back and update some with changes that were made and I have to create the dictionary page, which I will do in the next couple of days. I am close to finishing all of the written work. I just have to finish the "Futures" chapter and write the "Website" chapter, which will talk about why I've done what I've done to create it the way that I have, which a lot can be found here on the blog. So, until next time.

The Website
I have been working on the website the last couple days. Mostly just formatting the pages and transferring the written work onto the webpages. I've been doing the color schemes and getting all the pages to match up. After I am done with that, then I finish the rendering process for the videos and edit them in After Effects. I am also going to begin working on the slideshow that I what to put on the home page of my work. Hopefully this will be done by Sunday. I'm also editing my paper right now and adding to the Futures section and finishing up up conclusion. Once that is all done, I am going to do a quick chapter about this whole process and why I decided to do things the way that I did them. Until next time.

Minor/Major Setback
Good news first. I have converter the stop-motion video to AVI and I uploaded to YouTube to make sure that its working properly. It is. Here is the link to be able to watch it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H7KLVCF9Lt0 Bad news, I have to start over with rendering the 3D animations. Yea, not so happy there. I was rendering in 720x480 HD which didn't turn out too well, so now I'm going to do them at 620x480 or maybe even 320x280. Depends. I do however want to keep all the videos the same size so I might go with the 620x480. Also, with the smaller size, it won't take so long to render. But right now, I am focusing on finishing up the paper as soon as possible so I can have that part out of the way.

Stop-Motion Complete
I have just completed the stop motion video. There is music in the background and everything. The 3D animation videos are still rendering, yeah the first two. That process is going to be a long while. After this stop-motion video is done publishing, I am going to upload it to dropbox, so I can access it on my other computer. Then, I am going to convert the video file from WMV to AVI. AVI is the most standard video format on a computer. Afterwards, I'll insert it onto the website. Next next couple of days will be focused on finishing up the animation videos and writing more of the write up, so there might not be many updates. Until next time.

Rendering Animation
So today, I worked on the paper for a little bit. Then, I worked on adding two more cameras into the 3D model. So, now there is a total of 5 cameras throughout the model., two on the outside, and 3 within the model showing of the interior. I've have started rendering the first two videos in 720x480. One should take about 19 hours to complete and the other one is saying it should take about 26 hours two complete, so this is going to be a while. So, tomorrow, I am going to continue working on the stop-animation video. I have decided to make each pic the length of .3 seconds. So until tomorrows update.

Stop-Motion and Computer Animation
Today, I will be working on both the stop-motion video and the computer animated video. I am currently importing the pictures for the SM (Stop-Motion) onto my second computer. Once that's done, then I will be working on putting the video together using Windows Movie Maker. There will probably be two separate videos done. One for the ground floor and one for the top floors because the amount of photos I took while putting the model together. I hope to have a preview to be able to upload later on. On my other computer, I am working on capturing the camera motions to create the computer animated video. I decided the it'll be at 15 FPS (Frames per Second) to make the video a little longer. I've also decided to do a wire frame to run side by side of the realistic video so you can see some of the things these programs can do and how it is that they are helping architects. I guess that's it for now until later on today.

Good & Bad News
The good news first, I finished the 3rd camera walkthrough of the 3d model. So now I have to just record the camera animations and edit the video to that the compiter animation movie done. The bad news, I can't find a movie maker program that I can use. The only one that is good for what I need doesn't work on my computer. So tomorrow, I'm going to try another computer and continue to look for other programs. I plan to get some writing done this weekend also, so that will help with the content on the website. Other then that, until next time.
Lego Model
The Villa Savoye Lego model is now complete. It was actually kinda fun putting together. Now I am going to upload the pics to my computer and trying to find a good video maker software out there because Windows Movie Maker doesn't want to work on my computer anymore. Will probably update later on tonight with what else I get done today.

Steps in the Right Direction
Today, I started building the Villa Savoye Lego model. Its not as bad as I was thinking it was going to be. I finished the ground level for the model. I've also finished the Camera 1 Page for the website. I download Windows Movie Maker because that is what I am going to use to make my movies for the website. Its an extremely simple program to use. By the end of the night, I will have half the movie done for the stop-motion movie done and I will try to upload it to the blog for you to see what it looks like. That's as long as the program will stop crashing every time I try to use it.

Giving the Website Body
So, I wasn't able to get much done today, and I won't be able to work on the thesis tomorrow because of things in my life at the second but I did take to time out to transfer everything that I have written in my paper and transfer it into the website. It now looks like something worth looking at. I've also started another page for the website for the camera shots that I've rendered last week. I've uploaded the first 10 frames and will upload another 10 before I call it a night and send what I have done to my adviser to get some feedback on how things are coming along.

End of the day!
At the end of today, I have created all of the main pages for my website and have linked everything together. I was also able to link the blog into the site. Everybody will be able to see what I was writing as I was putting everything together and see what I was doing and the process I took to get there. I've also started transferring some of the written work on the paper into the website. Still not sure if I am going to put everything that I write on the paper into the website. Tomorrow might be an off day, but if I do work, it'll mostly be working on the paper.
Writing Mostly
So far today, I've been pretty much just working on the paper/transcript. I've done some work on the web pages but not a lot. I think I want to finish as much as possible before I put it onto the web pages, therefore I won't have to do to many changes to it afterwards. Gonna take a couple hours break to eat and then head back to the library to continue working.

Almost Done Rendering...For Now
So, after two days of constant rendering, I'm almost done. There are about 11 more frames for camera two, and then I'll be done with the frame shots for the two cameras. I'll let my computer stay on overnight so it can finish up the process while I sleep. While everything was rendering, i started working on the pages for the website. I haven't done much yet, the layout is done and the sidebar where all of the buttons to hypelinks is done. I have three pages started, which are the home page, the about page, and the what is... page. I've also wrote more to my paper today too. The paper is pretty much everything that is going to be on the website, so I'm treating it as a transcript. Hopefully, by the end of tomorrow, I plan to have started all the pages and started to write the content for each of the pages. I also plan to start the walkthrough of Villa Savoye.
Still Rendering
So I've finished with camera 1 frame shots. I've started with camera 2 shots and hopefully I'll be done with them tomorrow. I've also just downloads Dreamweaver CS5 because I was having a problem with CS4. Once I finish rendering camera 2, I plan to start the layout for the website and the stop-motion for the lego model. I may also add another camera to the computer model to make the walk-through longer. If that's the case, then I will be rendering another set of frames for the traditional animation page. This might be the most time consuming part of the project.

Rendering
So, I have finished rendering all the perspective shots. Now, I am currently rendering all of the frames in the two cameras that I've set up so far in the Villa Savoye scene. This process is turning out to be a very time consuming process. Each rendered frame is taking at least 5 mins to do on my Dell Laptop. On my Gateway laptop, each frame is taking about 30 mins to render. There are 100 frames for each camera, so this may take a while. While rendering, I plan to work on the text that is going to appear on the website, which will also double as my paper for this project. Might be back with an update late as to how many frames I was able to render today.
Here is just a photo of one of the frames:

Today, I worked some more in Studio Max.I rendered multiple shots of Villa Savoye at every angle. I've also set up cameras throughout the scene and created paths of which they can move on, therefore helping me with creating an animated movie of the building. What I've decided to do for the traditional animation page of the website along with creating a flip book, I am going to render every frame from the cameras in Max that are on Villa Savoye so I will be able to show what the process is for traditional animation is to be created, while throwing a slight twist on it because it will be computer animated instead of hand drawn.

Update
I have finished applying the materials to Villa Savoye and now I am going to begin work on creating a realistic 3D scene for the building.
Over the last couple days, I have been going back and forth between Revit and Studio Max, fixing minor details with the materials of the building for Villa Savoye. Hopefully by the end of the today, I will have all of that complete and I can begin to work of creating an animated scene with the building.
Friday, June 28, 2013
I know it's been awhile, but I'm back. As of today, I have completed a reconstruction of Villa Savoye in Revit and now I am moving the model into 3DS Studio Max to apply materials to the model and to start creating the 3D animation video. I've also received the Villa Savoye lego set earlier this week. Next week, I will begin to work on the stop motion video of me putting together the Villa Savoye set. Until next time...Adios!

The Beginning
Hello, welcome to my blog! This is going to focus purely on the process in which I go through to finishing my thesis. The topic of my thesis is Architecture and Animation. During my thesis, I plan to research and explain the link between architecture and animation. I want to exploit the different ways that animation and architecture work together, show examples of the different ways we can animate architecture itself, and research what the future holds animated architecture. I plan to update this daily with what I have done for the day in regards to my thesis so, in the end, you will be able too understand what it is that I am actually doing and how it is that I got to where I am.
So until next time...
